3 things that make things go viral

What really makes a good piece of viral content?

You might have thought about it too…if you’re anything like me,  I happen to love them..they rule.  I also have studied some of the most popular ones and came to a few conclusions about what exactly makes something spread like that.

1.The first thing is, it’s usually something humorous.  Think about all the viral videos you’ve seen…and what exactly made them so awesome?  Well, most of them were funny. That’s not to say all of them are, some of them are really sad or just make you angry.

2.Another thing that makes it memorable is that it takes you by surprise – it’s not something you expected.  Standing out is absolutely essential to getting popular.  People like anything that’s different, that makes them think or that challenges who they thought they were.

3.And usually, they evoke some kind of emotional response in the viewer.  People love that kind of stuff, and they have to share it with their friends.

These are basically my observations, along with research I’ve done on the internet about what makes something “go viral”.  These 3 things are not all the pieces of the puzzle, but they’re the main things In my opinion.  And don’t forget, something popular must be easily shareable! Make it easy for your readers to pass it around to their favorite social networks. It’s basic word of mouth marketing at it’s best.

If you play your cards right you can actually create your own image macro or video that becomes super popular and spreads around like wildfire. It’s not exactly something you can force, but you can nudge it along!
