An internet meme is basically an idea, picture, video, or anything that is passed around virally through the World Wide Web.  It spreads through word of mouth, and generally becomes so popular that it’s known as “viral”.

Therefore eventually millions of people come to find out about it.  Viral memes can be videos, pictures, quotes, thoughts, ideas, blog posts, websites, or generally anything that can be placed on the Internet.

Some notable examples of internet memes are the Rick Roll, The Double Rainbow Guy, Chocolate Rain, Hipster Memes, and Chuck Testa, among many, many others.  At the time of this writing there are probably thousands of “memes” floating around on the internet.
